Portable jump starter is not only useful for owners of garages and fleets of cars or trucks but is also useful for private car owners. Your car can break down anywhere at any time without warning especially during the cold weather. A portable jump starter will jumpstart your vehicle in no time. A portable jump starter has several benefits over booster cables. Some of them have been discussed here.
Help not required
If your car battery is down in the middle of a road, you need to wait for a car to approach and try and get help from that car to give your car a boost through booster cables. This is a problem, especially during the night and in unfamiliar areas. But if you have a portable jump starter, there is no need to wait for any other car. All you need to do is pull out the portable jump starter from the trunk of your car, connect it to the car battery and start the car instantly. Thus, you are fully independent even when your car battery dies down. Many models of portable jump starters also come equipped with an air compressor to fix deflated tyres which is an added benefit.
Position of the car is irrelevant
The position of the stranded car and the way it is parked is not a concern when jump starting using a portable jump starter. This is not the case with booster cables. The cars must be brought close to each other depending upon the length of the booster cable. In case the length is too small, the cars must be very close to each other, which becomes a problem, especially on busy roads. A portable jump starter solves the problem without moving the car at all.
No double connections
For jumpstarting your car using another car through booster cables, you need to make two connections. This means the chances of failure are doubled. The reverse connection can generate sparks which can ignite battery gases if present, thereby causing an explosion. There is also a risk of a short circuit which can damage the electronic parts of one or both the cars. In case of a portable jump starter, only one connection needs to be made. Safety mechanisms are also used by portable jump starters to avoid electrical issues.
No risk of damage to disabled or host vehicle
Low-quality booster cables can transfer voltage spikes and other electrical noise from the host to the disabled vehicle. The electrical noise can cause severe damage to the sensitive electronic components of the disabled vehicle. Removal of booster cable after jumpstarting the disabled vehicle can also damage its electronics due to voltage surge.
Whether the host vehicle can provide sufficient power to the disabled vehicle is also a big concern. If not, the additional power can damage the electrical systems of the host vehicle.
There are no such risks associated with a portable jump starter.
Affordable
Portable jump starters are not expensive. Good quality models are easily available at affordable rates. It is a good investment anyway.
